Pressure washing your deck is a great way to revitalize its appearance and extend its lifespan. Before you begin, it’s crucial to inspect the deck for any loose boards or damaged areas that need repair. Always wear safety glasses and gloves to protect yourself from debris and chemicals. Choose the right nozzle for your pressure washer; a wider nozzle is generally better for decks to avoid damaging the wood.

Start by sweeping the deck to remove any loose debris, leaves, or dirt. Apply a deck cleaner specifically designed for pressure washing, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Hold the pressure washer wand at a consistent distance from the deck surface, usually around 12 inches, and use a sweeping motion. Overlapping each pass slightly will ensure even cleaning and prevent streaks.

After washing, rinse the deck thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining cleaner. Allow the deck to dry completely before applying any sealant or stain. Consider using a wood brightener to restore the wood’s natural color and prepare it for finishing. Regular maintenance, including annual pressure washing, will keep your deck looking its best for years to come.
